St. Mary of the Mount Church & St. Adalbert Church
‘Tis the season for big news and significant dates. Within the past two weeks, we learned that Bishop Zubik accepted our proposal to close Saint Peter Church. We now know that the final mass at Saint Peter’s will take place on January 12, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a time of gathering at the Prince of Peace Parish Center at 4:00 p.m.
In this time of transition and loss, it’s more important than ever that we, Prince of Peace and Saint Mary of the Mount, start to come together as one community of faith.
We have started to come together in a variety of ways already: in our choirs, in our Religious Education Program, in pierogi making, and in Holy Week worship, to name a few.
Now is the time to take another meaningful step toward unity. On Monday, January 20, 2020, the administrative offices for all Prince of Peace and Saint Mary of the Mount staff will be located at the current Prince of Peace Administrative Center (81 S. 13 St. in the South Side).
The current Saint Mary of the Mount rectory and home of the administrative offices will be completely transformed into an education and community gathering space by January 20.
Brothers and sisters, we need this! We need staff to be under one roof, working together more seamlessly. If we hope to lead our communities to unity, staff and leadership must demonstrate unity first.
And we all know how desperately we crave space to meet and encounter one another. The current Saint Mary of the Mount rectory already houses our Religious Education Program, hosting Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level I and II programming, as well as a developing Infant Atrium program. Our older children in grades 4-8 meet at the current rectory for religious instruction and fellowship as well. The space holds Confirmation preparation programming, small discipleship groups, a variety of committee meetings, and a Bible Study for the Deaf Community. But as ministry grows, so does our need for spaces of encounter.
When all the parish offices move to the South Side on January 20, it will open up real opportunities for more meaningful and frequent fellowship, prayer and union, both in the newly unified office space in South Side, as well as in what will become our Center for Education and Community in what is now the Saint Mary of the Mount rectory.
We will be moving on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, January 15, 16, & 17, 2020. So that we are all set-up and ready for business on Monday, January 20, the Prince of Peace and Saint Mary of the Mount offices will be closed during this time.
Come, Lord Jesus! Help us make straight Your path.
In Christ’s hope and peace, The Parish Leadership Team
