St. Mary of the Mount Church & St. Adalbert Church
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Greetings to you and your family! With Lent upon us, we enter into our most sacred time of preparation in the Liturgical Year. Our focus in Lent is to prepare ourselves for the new life offered in Easter: Resurrection! Easter, the time of new birth, is the bold proclamation of all that we are as Catholic Christians: people of hope.
As pastor, I am deeply committed to the spiritual vitality of our parish. We are happy to extend to you the invitation, through the enclosed materials, to participate in a variety of sacramental, liturgical, and educational offerings, aimed at drawing us into the new life of Easter during this Jubilee Year of Hope. Our theme this year is Journey of Hope and the materials contain information about our Lenten offerings, sacramental opportunities to draw closer to Him this season, and full Liturgical Schedule for Lent and Easter Sunday.
I encourage you to embrace the traditional Lenten practices of prayer, almsgiving, and fasting this Lent. Fasting is a way of saying “no” to ourselves, to create an opportunity for God to deepen His work in us by increasing our attention to prayer.
Jesus comes to forgive our sins. The real struggle is to allow Jesus to forgive us, to allow His forgiveness to touch the deepest places in our hearts. This Lent, we invite you to experience God’s forgiveness in the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation or Confession). For those who feel called to find their way back to the Church during this Lenten season, this may be the first step. Our Parish Lenten Penance Service will be Wednesday, April 9 at 6:30pm at St. Mary of the Mount.
Fasting, prayer, and almsgiving bring unity: joining us as a faith community, bound together in one mind and heart. These practices enable us to join spiritually, in solidarity with others in the faith, making a gift to the Father as one body, united in Christ.
As we walk together towards the joys of Resurrection, may Christ be our hope.
Yours in Christ and Fellow Pilgrim of Hope,
Fr. Bob Cedolia
Pastor
